What is a closed question in English?
A closed question is when the answer can only be ‘yes’ or ‘no’, e.g. “Are you happy?”. The answer could only be ‘yes’ or ‘no’. If we want more information, we need to add a question word to create an open question, e.g. “WHY are you happy?” Now the answer could be almost anything!
What are question tags in English?
Question tags are a more informal way of asking questions in English, e.g. “You can speak English, CAN’T YOU?” If we think we already know the answer, our intonation goes down on the question tag. If we’re not sure of the answer, our intonation goes up on the question tag. If the verb in the statement is positive, then the verb in the question tag is negative, but if the verb in the statement is negative, then the verb in the question tag is positive.
