Modal verbs | Grammar
Modal verbs are used in English to show how someone feels about something. Modal verbs can be used to show ability, obligation, permission, probability, and willingness.
For example, you can express ability by saying "I CAN help you". This means I am able to help you. I have the ability to help you. In this case, we add the modal verb 'can' to the main verb 'help'.
Here is a second example. You can show willingness by saying "I WILL help you". By adding the modal verb 'will' to the main verb 'help', you are showing that you are happy to help.
